Switchable crossover points ensure precise control with all three bands of opto-compression. Independent band specific Threshold, Ratio, Attack, Release & Gain parameters make the SMC 2BM as flexible as it is accurate. Gain controls are fitted with 12 position gold plated switches with 1dB/step. Threshold, Ratio, Attack, Release and Balance controls are fitted with potentiometers with 31 detents.

The FET III is the perfect tools because it simply reduces the dynamic range without a shift of balance within the mix. It's a studio tool, not a paint brush. Saying that, though, shouldn't take away from the versatility of the fully Class A FET III. And the FET III does it's duty on a wide variety of sources. The upgraded high-pass filters (from those in the FET II) really allow you tweak the behavior of the FET III's limiter.

Drawmer S3 Stereo Three Band Tube Compressor Details
The new Drawmer S3 Stereo Three Band Tube Compressor incorporates the very latest in Ivor Drawmer designs and the aim from the very beginning was to create a ‘no technical compromise’ circuit using only the highest grade components.
The S3 forms the basis of a ‘Signature Series’ and offers previously unattainable control and tonality over each of the three bands - gain control at each stage provides precise spectral balancing. The signal path consists of high performance input/output transformers, passive components and 10 x tubes (8 x ECC83 and 2 x 12BH7) configured as a fully balanced Class A design. Because the LDR’s (Light Dependent Resistors) in the compressors are temperature sensitive the S3 houses an ‘electronic oven’ which provides and sustains the optimum LDR operating temperature - thereby maintaining calibration accuracy and improving performance. A front panel LED indicates temperature status. Large scale VU meters can be switched to ‘Peak’ mode to show transient information. Two further VU meter re-scale modes are available (+10dB and +20dB) to accurately display the unit’s ability to output levels of up to +30dBm. The master output section includes controls for both Gain and stereo balance to compensate for source material with a Left/Right imbalance or disproportionate processing.

The Mastering Version of the Manley Variable Mu Limiter Compressor incorporates detented and logable steps built with 1% metal film resistors on sealed gold-contact Grayhill switches.
The Manley Stereo Variable Mu Limiter Compressor has been Manley's best selling product for many years. It is one of the very few compressors that has become a real standard in Mastering studios and contributed to most hit records over the last decade and probably the next. "Mu" is tube-speak for gain, and Variable Mu is our registered trademark for this limiter compressor. It works by using the "remote cut-off" or re-biasing of a vacuum tube to achieve compression. The precious vintage Fairchild 670 also uses this technique and is one of few all-tube compressor to do so, that we know of. Even the side-chain has glowing rectifier bottles. How’s it work? The unique 5670 dual triode is at the center of the peak-reducing and compression action constantly being re-biased by the vacuum tube rectified side-chain control voltages which cause this tube to smoothly change its gain.
